Welcome to Foolish Owl. We are your hosts, Preeti and Juggi Ramakrishnan. We live in Bali, Indonesia, with our cats, Garlic and Ginger. We both left careers in advertising to start this home art studio.
Since you are here reading this, we assume that you like art. So do our cats. Ginger likes art he can scratch and Garlic likes art she can sit on. Sometimes she might fall asleep on top of a piece we're working on and force us to move on to something else.
We ourselves like art that’s not uptight. We like work that adds colour, beauty, charm, wit and foolishness to our lives. We like fresh takes on familiar things. We believe art can be fun, irreverent and unexpected. Art should say things to people, preferably interesting things, and in a language we can understand. It must spark conversation and not just stand pressed against a wall attempting to be inconspicuous like an elevator operator in a colonial hotel.
The way we make our art matters to us. We put a lot of thought into our materials. As far as possible, we work with local craftsmen, recycled or sustainable materials, and eco-friendly processes. We adore handcrafted things and cherish discovery, spontaneity and happy accidents. But we don’t sell anything until we are convinced that it’s something we would be proud to own ourselves and the cats have sniffed it and given it the nod. We hope you like our art too and we hope it lifts you up whenever you see it.
